Rare early production three-seater Cornaro sofa by Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, designed in 1973 for Simon Gavina. The frame is crafted from solid Iroko wood, a highly durable hardwood often referred to as African teak. Known for its density, natural resistance to wear, and rich warm tone, Iroko features a distinctive grain pattern punctuated by small natural flecks that add depth and texture. The woodwork on this sofa is in excellent condition. The sofa retains its original cushions with the first edition ribbed upholstery. The fabric is fully original and has remained in remarkably good condition for its age—clean, intact, and still fresh in appearance. The stitched-panel, ribbed construction adds rhythm and tactility, enhancing the sculptural quality of Scarpa’s design. The deep, generously padded cushions provide comfort while balancing the strict, architectural geometry of the frame. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
