The Bow (De Boeg), Rotterdam, is a monument to the Dutch Merchant Navy. Designed in 1956 by Federico Carasso and erected the following year, it takes the form of a ship’s bow cutting through waves, honouring those who lost their lives at sea during the Second World War. The steel construction, clad in bright Canadian aluminium, stands as a striking symbol of remembrance.
