This round marble dining table is the m1 model by angelo mangiarotti, produced by skipper in italy during the 1970s. It is one of mangiarotti’s most celebrated designs, showing his mastery of gravity-based construction and his fascination with material honesty. The table consists of two elements: a conical base and a circular top, both in solid marble. The connection is achieved without screws or fittings. The top rests securely in the carved recess of the base, relying purely on weight and precision. This approach, which mangiarotti developed in several of his works, demonstrates his architectural training and his belief that form and function should be inseparable. Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was an architect and designer educated at the politecnico di milano, and worked in chicago alongside mies van der rohe and frank lloyd wright before establishing his own practice in milan. His work is represented in the permanent collections of major museums such as the moma in new york, the victoria and albert museum in london, and the triennale design museum in milan. The collaboration with skipper resulted in some of his most iconic furniture pieces, including the m1 series of tables. This example is executed in grey marble with striking natural veining. The surface has been polished, highlighting the variations of tone across the stone. The sculptural quality of the base, with its flared top, gives the table an architectural presence while remaining minimal in construction. The condition is truly outstanding. There are no cracks, chips, or restorations of any kind. The marble is free of blemishes and the table is ready for immediate use. The m1 has become one of the most sought-after dining tables from postwar italian design, admired for its simplicity, technical ingenuity, and timeless aesthetic. Original examples such as this remain rare on the market, particularly in such pristine condition. Also a darker m1 available, a first edition, not by skipper but by t70. this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
