Description of the item:
Beautiful sculpture, entirely handmade, unique piece, depicting a knight on a ram in majolica ceramic, with handcrafted acid etching and compact tin glazes. The sculpture is definitely signed under the base, but it is impossible to see the signature because it has been fixed onto an additional stone base. The engobed ceramic of the sculpture is particularly valuable, finished with lead and tin glazes and treated with acid and induced antique craquelure, made in a clearly ethnic-archaic primitivist style.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
From our internet research, we have found that numerous ceramics made by Claudio Pulli are offered at rather high prices on online art and antiques sales platforms such as the Internet and Pamono, with prices for the largest and most important pieces ranging from €700 to €1,500. A similar, larger ceramic figurine depicting a wild boar is offered for €800 on Pamono. This gives an idea of the importance of this Italian artist.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
This is a work by the famous ceramist Claudio Pulli, born in Puglia, but trained first at the Tavolara school and later in Faenza, where he perfected the techniques of engobe, glazing, lead coating, and tin glaze. Working in Sardinia in Selargius, in the province of Cagliari, he has participated in many fairs and organized various solo exhibitions, including one in Tokyo, showcasing his unique pieces inspired by Sardinia and its ancient craftsmanship. In the last photo, we have included some biographical notes on the artist for those who wish to learn more.
