A French .950 silver tastevin made by the prestigious Puiforcat with thumb rest.
Pronounced “taht-vahn”, and translating to “taste wine” these shallow cups were used to access the color and clarity of a wine long before electricity and crystal glasses.
An excellent tastevin to add to a collection or for a gift for the Oenophile.
French, C 1900 marked for .950 silver as noted by the 1st. Titre mark. The maker’s punch for Emile Puiforcat (letters EP surrounding the symbol of a pen knife. Engraved "Puiforcat Paris" to underside.
Measurements; from thumbpiece to edge 4 ½” inches, bowl only 3 ¼” and height of 1” top of thumbpiece, 81 grams
Condition Report; Very good, small micro scratches on surface and underside, all in accordance with age and use.
