Description:
This original oil painting is by Robert E. Russell (American, b. 1933), a Laguna Beach artist renowned for his luminous seascapes and landscapes. Known as the “Poet of the Palette,” Russell exhibited for more than four decades at the Sawdust Art Festival and the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts, where his works were widely collected.

The painting captures the dramatic coastline of Big Sur, one of California’s most iconic natural landscapes. Towering cliffs, rugged rock formations, and crashing surf are rendered with Russell’s expressive brushwork, while mist rises above the horizon, softening the powerful scene. The composition perfectly balances energy and serenity, hallmarks of Russell’s most admired work.

This painting carries special provenance: it was acquired directly from the artist’s son, who shared that it was one of Robert E. Russell’s personal favorites. He also noted that his father spent more time creating this piece than any other in his career, making it an especially rare and significant work.

The painting is presented in an ornate gold gilt wood frame with deep acanthus and geometric carving. The frame enhances the grandeur of the seascape and measures 30" high x 42" wide x 1.5" deep overall.
