The work features a central loose figure painting of the main character from Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel Don Quixote. Signed in the front lower right corner as well as signed, titled, and dated on the reverse. Currently hung in a black frame with gold accents.

Artist Biography: Joël Dabin was a French painter who was born in 1933 in Pallet in Loire-Atlantique, France.

In the 1950s he became interested in Abstract Expressionism and the action painting of the New York School. Over the years, he became a painting of the movement. Throughout his career he exhibited at a variety of galleries all over the world and his work is in a number of French institutions.

His compositions always served this idea of movement. In terms of colors, he worked with all color harmonies, with a preference for blue and warm tones. He primarily used oil paint and only used acrylic incidentally for backgrounds.

He passed away on November 7th, 2003 in Nantes, France. See less
