As the 1910s … Read more Historically intriguing, this pitcher is an absolutely stunning example of the transitioning styles of the early 1900s. As the 1910s became the 1920s, the flowing botanical lines of the Art Nouveau period gave way to bolder, geometric patterns that became associated with Art Deco. This hand-painted piece has both, bold gilt banding and the clean lines of the form are very deco, while the central decoration is reminiscent of a blooming flower is quite nouveau.

The makers mark "T&V Limoges France" can be attributed to Tressemanes & Vogt, a Porcelain factory partnered by Gustave Vogt (1849-1937) and Émilien de Tressemanes. The Limoges-based decorating firm began producing high-quality products for the American export market in 1882 and continued to do so until the company was bought out in 1919.

Deep forest green comprises the body of this pitcher, a matte base laid down for the Pickard style gold and pearlescent design overlaid on all sides. The design itself is reminiscent of stained glass windows. The hand painted lines are precise and flow beautifully, this piece is in exceptional condition. All painted design and gilding is pristine, including gilt handle. Small chips at the spout (see pictures). See less
