useful information for appraising this item:
from an online search, we noted that icav ceramics command fairly high auction prices, which gives an idea of the value of this important vietri factory. It should be noted that the item features an excellent patina, especially on the back, and dates to around 1920-1930, when some of the most important artists of the "german vietri period" collaborated with the factory, including irene kowaliska and margarethe thewalt, to whom we can attribute the authorship of this wonderful piece.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the industria ceramiche artistiche meridionali (i.c.a.m.) was founded in vietri sul mare at the beginning of the 20th century by vincenzo pinto. After creating numerous important ceramic panels for public and religious buildings, the factory established itself on the national and international markets in the early 1920s. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, german ceramist barbara margarethe thewalt, perhaps the most significant figure in the so-called "german period" of vietri ceramics, worked for i.c.a.m., a guest of the factory along with irene kowaliska. The factory boasts numerous awards and has won numerous competitions and art exhibitions. In the last photo, we've included historical information about the factory for those interested in learning more. This piece has an attribution mark,
