This is one of the unsigned chairs that would have been made between 1820 and 1825 with NO MAKER’S MARK, before the Hitchcock stamp started being applied at the factory. This chair does pass all of the other authentication tests such as stenciled gold gilt, and decorative ochre yellow paint not reaching around to the backs of the legs, etc.. The fruit painting is unique to the earliest Hitchcock chairs produced. Of course I believe the rush has been rewoven. See less
