Antique Oak and Iron Silver Chest (Coffer), mid 1800's, in beautiful condition with a deep color in the wood that makes this item special.
The chest is of English origin, and was purchased by the current owner from an Antiques dealer in Plymouth, UK, in the late 1970's and has been used at home and in storage since that time.
Similar chests were constructed for use by the Royal Navy or Merchant Marines in the Southern port UK cities. This was constructed for Mr. Robt. Coffin, Esq., who's brass name plate is on the chest.
Item is estimates to be from the mid-1880's based upon the construction.
The chest is in great shape for it's age, a few small dings and scuffs. The chest is unlined, without inserts or dividers.
A real showpiece for any home.
