This ceiling or wall light is from the production of glashütte limburg, a renowned german manufacturer of high-quality lighting. It was designed by finnish designer helena tynell, who worked for limburg in the 1960s and is known for her organically shaped glass designs. The model is the limburg a 664 / 604, as clearly stamped and labeled on the base.
the lamp's distinctive design is typical of the late 1960s and combines functional clarity with decorative glasswork in the style of the mid-century aesthetic.
the lamp consists of a semicircular glass dome with a striking honeycomb structure made of raised glass spheres. This so-called bubble structure creates an attractive play of light and diffused light distribution – a central element in tynell's design repertoire. The clear pressed glass is slightly frosted on the inside to reduce glare and is secured to the metal base by twisting the bayonet lock. The base itself is made of metal and features a gold-bronze finish, giving the lamp a warm, slightly elegant touch.
the back of the base bears the stamped model name "limburg 604" and the adhesive label "a 664 limburg 60w 3181." the socket is designed for e27 bulbs up to 60w and is currently fitted with a newer energy-saving bulb. The lamp can be mounted on both ceilings and walls.
condition: the lamp is in very good condition. The glass has no cracks or chips and shows only slight signs of age-related wear in the form of fine surface irregularities. The metal parts are fully functional and only slightly patinated; the technology has been tested and is ready for use. Overall, a well-preserved original piece from german mass production in the 1960s, designed by one of scandinavia's most influential glass designers.
