His face is relaxed, eyes half-closed, hair loose: the man appears to be caught in a liminal moment, perhaps between sleep and death. One arm stretches out toward the viewer, holding a fruit in his hand — a symbolically charged element that enhances the scene’s ambiguity.

Against a dark background, enveloping shapes and saturated tones (red, purple, black) create a deep and silent atmosphere. Bec’s painterly approach — made of flat color fields, overlapping transparencies, and tonal harmonies — gives the composition a timeless, almost cinematic quality.
