This one has a past.

The base and leg were cut from a slab of walnut that once held court in a New Jersey estate kitchen—a countertop that saw decades of coffee stains, whispered arguments, and late-night confessions. The top? An offcut from the same kind of slab—1.75 inches thick, dark, and heavy with grain that looks like it’s been marinated in time.

I built it myself. Not from a kit. Not from some “sustainably sourced” pressboard. This is the real thing—walnut that’s lived a life, cut and fit so the raw edge stays raw, the curves stay honest, and the surface is smoothed just enough to feel like butter under your hand.

It stands 23 inches high—small enough to tuck beside your leather sofa, strong enough to hold a stack of art books or a piece of ceramic sculpture. It doesn’t scream for attention, but when people notice it, they’ll want to know its story. See less
