Printed in a limited commercial run of only 500 copies, the image is from the work of Gratiane de Gardilanne and Elizabeth Whitney Moffatt, with lithography executed by Vincent, Brooks, Day & Son in full color. The scene presents two girls and a baby boy in richly detailed children's costumes. The leftmost girl wears the workaday dress of Marken girls aged six to sixteen, layered with five caps—a white one with a black edge, a red baize one, a lace and net cap, a crochet cap, and a cretonne cap—all tied under the chin with a red and white strap. Her jacket conceals the *rijglijf* (corset) and is secured by a bow of flowered chintz. Beneath her blue baize skirt are at least two petticoats, one of which is red baize. Her apron is blue cotton, marked with embroidered initials. The baby in the center wears a scarf of red, white, and blue cotton under his chin and dons the same five caps as his sister. A kerchief of blue and white check drapes over his shoulders, pinned above a frock of green flowered cotton and blue chintz. He also wears a dark blue knitted jersey—reserved for boys—and a chest-protector with red and white check and lace. The young boy to the right, likely under six, wears a bold deep-colored frock and a very full brown baize skirt trimmed with red and yellow braid. His apron is tied in the front with red and white ribbons, while his five caps and blue knitted stockings complete the look. All three children wear traditional Dutch wooden shoes. This original print is in excellent condition with strong color retention and sharp detail. Printed using fine color lithography, it reflects the vibrant textile culture of Marken in the early 20th century. It would be best displayed in a museum-quality frame with a cream or off-white archival mat and non-reflective UV-protective glass to preserve its delicate pigments. A narrow black or walnut-stained wood frame will complement both the bright colors and the historic feel of the work. See less
