This vintage settee is a fine example of the French Louis XVI style, characterized by its elegant and balanced Neoclassical design. The gilding of the frame is not pure gold but rather a metallic silver/gold that matches the champagne crushed velvet upholstery. The metallic finish also helps highlight its intricate carvings and architectural lines.
The settee features signature Louis XVI elements, including straight, fluted, and tapered legs. The armrests are gracefully curved and feature a hand-carved leaf motif, a nod to classical antiquity. The backrest and seat are upholstered in a neutral champagne colored crushed velvet fabric.
Origin unknown but most likely made in France sometime mid to late 20th century. Included are two 20" square decorative pillows in a soft French green with champagne tassels.
