The painting was executed by a skilled painter from the Roman area of the second half of the 17th century and is stylistically linked to the artistic results of a great master of the time, the Perugian painter Gian Domenico Cerrini (Perugia, 1609 – Rome, 1681), who created a true prototype of this representation that served as a model for other painters to follow, and is now preserved at the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia. In our case, it is not a slavish copy, but a personal elaboration of this painter, taken from that of the Perugian master. It is likely that it came from the Roman workshop of the Perugian painter in his late period of activity or from a close follower of the 1680s. The canvas is in good condition and has already been restored. The dimensions of the painting are: 97cm x 134cm (canvas); 152cm x 113cm (with frame) The frame on which it is mounted is antique and contemporary with the painting, but it has probably been brought back to the wood over time.
