It is highly likely that the panel was used in a more complex pictorial structure, and therefore, placed opposite the depiction of the Annunciate Virgin. In fact, there is a particular vanishing point of the slightly "worm's eye view" representation, which leads us to believe that it was placed high above the central panel of a devotional altarpiece of great complexity. This model may have been executed around 1520 by the most faithful helpers and heirs of Della Porta, namely Fra Paolino da Pistoia or Giovanni Antonio Sogliani, authorized to use the master's preparatory drawings. The figure of the angel refers precisely to the aesthetic canons, permeated by attention to detail and full of solemn devotion, handed down in the school of San Marco in the early 16th century, as does the chromaticism refer to the works of Fra Paolino, while the figurative design refers to the same Bartolomeo della Porta and has greater affinities with the works of Sogliani. Upon request, we may request an expert appraisal of the panel from an expert in Florentine Renaissance painting. The panel is in perfect condition and shows only brief and insignificant retouching under UV light. The very fine craquelure of this panel makes it a unique and precious object. Panel dimensions only 36cm x 48cm. 20th-century Renaissance-style frame, 8cm wide. See less
