The future Saint Mary Magdalene is depicted within a beautiful rocky landscape, precisely at the moment of her conversion. In fact, the ointment jar on the ground symbolizes the renunciation of the sinful life she had previously led, and the skull and book symbolize her reflection on life and the passage of time. A certain pictorial and chromatic quality of the painting is immediately noticeable, which could belong to a talented painter of the Bolognese school active in the very early 18th century.
