A remarkable oval gateleg dining table crafted from Brazilian Rosewood, designed by Niels Koefoed and manufactured in Denmark by Koefoed’s Hornslet in the 1960’s.
Purchased in 1972 at the Scandia Interiors store in San Diego, this drop-leaf table remains in very good condition, with a luxurious rosewood tabletop and solid rosewood legs. The two 24” drop leaves fold up and down on hinge joints, each supported by a gateleg that swing outward when extended. The table measures 77 inches when fully extended, reducing to 28.5 inches with both gatelegs folded. 139501The V-shaped legs add visual interest with their sleek, dramatic design, while providing stability and durability.
Niels Koefoed specialized in designing dining room furniture. His clean, minimalist designs combined beauty of form with functionality. His use of hardwoods such as rosewood ensured that each piece would retain its charm and beauty. Renowned for his elegant dining chairs and dining tables, his “Eva’’ designs of 1964 (named after one of his daughters) were his most famous.
This dining table blends beautifully with two companion pieces also available from this seller, also made in rosewood: A set of six dining chairs and a large sideboard, purchased at the same time in 1972 as a dining room set. These can each be found in separate listings.
6 NIELS MOLLER ROSEWOOD AND CORD DINING CHAIRS. A timeless set of 6 dining chairs by Niels Møller, in his model 78 design of 1962. With gently curved rosewood frames sculpted in solid rosewood and seats restored in authentic Danish cord, these iconic Møller chairs display an ergonomic design that exudes elegance with comfort. They are shown with the Niels Koefoed table in two of the accompanying photos.
JOHANNES ANDERSEN ROSEWOOD SIDEBOARD. This stunning 94.5” sideboard blends beautifully with the dining table and chairs. Handcrafted in exquisite book-matched Brazilian rosewood with rounded corners, its back Is also finished in rosewood, providing an option in an open floor plan of serving as a distinctive separator between a dining space and a living space.
Together, these 3 items comprise an elegant example of the best of mid-Century Danish craftsmanship, renowned for combining simple, functional lines with sleek, modern design. They offer a rare opportunity to furnish a dining room or dining area in top-quality rosewood furniture.
