Pompeo Pianezzola was a key figure in the Italian artistic scene, especially in the world of 20th-century ceramics. He combined the tradition of Nove ceramics with innovative artistic research, transcending the confines of craftsmanship to achieve a contemporary language.
The ceramic work featured here falls within the category of "books" or "scrolls" that Pianezzola has created, particularly since the 1980s. They are not meant to be read in the traditional sense, but rather to be contemplated as objects that preserve stories.
It is crafted by creating a cylindrical part that imitates parchment or rolled paper, and a flat part that recalls a fragment of text. The surface of the latter is highly textured, almost rough. The edges, however, are jagged, as if the page were torn. At the center of the flat page is a short text that reads: "life, friendship remains." Unfortunately, the first word is illegible.
This is followed by Pompeo Pianezzola's signature and the date the work was created: Christmas '96.
The overall dimensions are 15.5 x 34 x 5 cm. The work is in good condition.
