Artwork sold with damaged frame (89.5 x 104.5 cm) or without frame Elisabeth Schlup born 1860, was a Swiss painter active in the early 20th century. Though often referred to as German in art databases, archival records show she lived and worked in Bern, Switzerland. In 1909, she became a founding member of the Bern section of the Gesellschaft Schweizerischer Malerinnen und Bildhauerinnen (Society of Swiss Women Painters and Sculptors), an important organization promoting women artists in Switzerland. This affiliation places her among the early professional female artists in the country. Very little is known about Schlup’s education or artistic training, and she does not appear in major artist lexicons. However, her participation in the Society’s exhibitions — especially the public shows at the Kunstmuseum Bern in 1910 and 1912 — suggests that she was actively contributing to the local art scene during that period. Her known works, as evidenced by auction records, include Heimwärts and Felsenküste am Mittelmeer (1904), which point to a focus on naturalistic or rural landscape painting, likely in oil. No images or detailed s of her work survive in public collections, and none of her paintings are held in museums today, as far as records show. Despite the limited surviving information, Schlup represents one of many early women artists whose contributions remain under-documented but were vital to the cultural fabric of their time.
