An exceptional example of late 19th-century American silverplate, this Victorian double spooner by Derby Silver Company showcases the brand’s renowned craftsmanship and decorative flair. Designed with two removable tulip-form holders—each with intricate bright-cut hand chased engraving, and gilt-washed interiors—it rests on an ornate pedestal base supported by four figural swan legs.
The central stem branches gracefully to support the twin holders, each encircled by an embossed floral and scrollwork band. The quadruple plate finish has been beautifully maintained, preserving its reflective luster.
Whether displayed as a centerpiece, used for its original function to hold spoons or flatware, or repurposed as a small epergne for flowers, cheese sticks treats, or bar tools, this piece offers elegance and versatility.

The company operated showrooms in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, and by 1893 was led by President Watson J. Miller and Secretary/Treasurer Wesley L. Clark. In 1898, it became part of the International Silver Company but continued under its own name until the plant closed in 1933. Its designs are held in major museum collections and have been featured in prominent exhibitions from the 1876 Centennial Exposition to recent museum shows.
