The top rail … Read more This attractive chair is in good overall condition for its age and looks nice from all angles. The top rail and arms show a little wear around the edges and are solid. From the front, these areas look to be in excellent shape, but when the chair is viewed from the side, a chipped off piece in the corner of the arm where it meets the vertical part is visible. The spindles are in excellent condition, front and back. They look fine and are all solid with no movement. The seat is caned with a leather-looking piece over it. It would seem like the caning was damaged, so it was covered years ago, but a look underneath shows that it is in good shape overall. It was left as it is because removal of the black portion to check underneath didn't seem prudent. The four pieces that meet under the seat were loose, and one has a crack, so they were repaired with epoxy to tighten things back up. This worked, and it appears that it will hold well into the future. The legs, like the rest of the piece, have relatively light wear in the form of scratches and small dings. They, and the center support pieces, are all in good structural condition. What is left of the metal feet was hammered into the wood, making them flush so they do not scratch the floor. It would be a good (easy) idea to cover them with adhesive felt pads just to be sure. Please see the pictures for further details.
