Artwork sold with frame (86.5 x 105 cm) Henri Édouard Brosset (1875–1955) was a Swiss painter and graphic artist born in Geneva, where he lived and worked until his death. Known for both his fine art and graphic work, Brosset created serene landscapes and vibrant posters, bridging the decorative and fine arts traditions of early 20th-century Switzerland. His paintings often depict Swiss rural and alpine settings, such as Le Salève and Lac, rendered in oils with a delicate use of light and color. Brosset also produced striking poster art, including a well-known 1899 piece for the “Fête cantonale genevoise de gymnastique,” which demonstrates his talent in visual communication and design. These works reflect the harmony between nature, culture, and modern aesthetics. His art continues to attract collectors today. Paintings like Le Salève have sold at Swiss auctions for over $4,000, and his posters are sought after by collectors of early Swiss graphic design. Some of his works are held in Geneva’s Musée d’Art et d’Histoire. Although not widely known internationally, Brosset’s contribution to Swiss visual culture—through both painting and design—remains significant. His legacy is one of quiet refinement, rooted in the landscapes and cultural identity of Geneva and the surrounding region. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
