This work belongs to the 16th-century Mannerist school and clearly reveals the dominant influence of Michelangelo. The posture of the Madonna's bust, for example, clearly recalls that of the famous David, as if the sculpture had been transposed into painting. The choice of colors and use of light also recall the master's paintings, particularly the Sistine Chapel and the Doni Tondo.

Michelangelo was the absolute benchmark for artists of the time, considered the pinnacle of the arts of drawing, painting, and sculpture. This panel conveys a strong sense of devotion to him: the painter adopts his stylistic elements but recomposes them in an original composition, almost like a collage, making the work personal and distinctive.
