This vintage Chinese chest has been hand carved from Camphor wood; the front and top feature scenes of warriors charging on horseback flanked by a dragon and a phoenix, while the sides and back show more serene scenic panels. Relief carvings are beautifully accented by the rich deep color of the wood, making this a standout piece. An ornate brass latch at the front, engraved with birds fluttering above flowers, holds the chest closed with a brass push key style lock, included. Though the push key has disappeared over the years, the lock can be gently pushed apart without it.
Clean, nicely scented inside, and ready for many more years of storage, a custom cut glass top is also included, perfect to protect the carvings on the lid from items stacked atop the chest.
