A striking and atmospheric space age table lamp produced by p. W. Denmark in the 1970s, model “rotina colour”, combining bold pop art aesthetics with a fascinating kinetic light effect.
the lamp is designed as a sculptural cube with a black plastic frame and a geometric grid composed of circular lenses, enclosing a multicoloured transparent film cylinder around the light source. When illuminated, the gentle heat generated by the bulb activates the inner cylinder, causing it to rotate and project vivid, shifting patterns of warm colour across the surrounding space. The result is an immersive and dynamic lighting experience, transforming the piece into a true light sculpture rather than a conventional lamp.
the underside retains its original label, marked: “firma: p. W. Denmark” and “type: rotina colour”, confirming its authenticity.
with dimensions of approximately 23.5 cm in height and 17.5 x 17.5 cm in width and depth, the lamp has a compact yet visually powerful presence, equally suited for both ambient lighting and as a statement design object.
the lamp is fitted with an e14 (small edison screw) socket. To achieve the intended rotating effect, a small incandescent bulb that generates a moderate level of heat is required. Bulbs that produce too little heat (such as most led bulbs) will not activate the rotation, while bulbs that run excessively hot are not recommended. Historically, examples of this model have occasionally been damaged due to the use of overly high-wattage bulbs, so a balanced, low-wattage incandescent bulb is advised to ensure both proper function and long-term preservation.
the lamp remains in excellent vintage condition with only minor signs of age and use. Fully functional and professionally checked, it is wired for a 110–240 volt electricity grid and equipped with a european plug and inline switch, making it suitable for worldwide use.
a rare and highly decorative example of danish 1970s space age design—both a functional light source and a captivating kinetic object. This piece has an attribution mark,
