This antique solid fir chest, dated 1800 and originating from the Alps (Tyrol), is a remarkable example of Alpine folk craftsmanship. The rectangular body rests on turned bun feet, with a hinged lid and a sturdy, compact structure. The front features two octagonal framed panels painted in muted blue-grey, each adorned with delicate floral bouquets in red and ivory, executed in traditional tempera.

Above the panels, the carved initials E.C.J. and the date 1800 suggest the chest may have been a wedding gift or part of a dowry. The side panels also bear floral decorations and are fitted with original wrought iron handles.

The top surface reveals a beautiful aged patina, showing traces of the original painted motifs. The color palette—reddish brown, ochre, forest green, and carmine red—remains subtly visible, adding warmth and authenticity to the piece.

Ideal for use at the foot of a bed, in an entryway, or as a decorative storage element, this unique chest brings with it the timeless charm and symbolic richness of 19th-century Alpine domestic life.
