The lantern structure of these vintage pendants is entirely hand crafted using natural fibers such as thin canes, or sections of canes, bent and fixed together with rattan ties. Worked like a layered cake, each layer that makes up the lanterns presents a different decorative motif. The lowest and the upper one are decorated with a decorative wave motif created by bending a thin cane in molds. This decorative motif made of bamboo or other natural fibers is typical of the modern 20th century and widely used in the creation of furnishings for homes on the Italian and French Riviera. The central layer shows a slat decoration created with sections of cane slats fixed at the ends by brown rattan ties. Each of the decorative elements listed produces beautiful light effects on the walls, projecting designs that create a temporary wallpaper made of shadows. The pendant lights were found on the Circeo coast in a seaside villa and were positioned individually as chandeliers in the bedrooms, but we imagine them on a dining table, positioned at the same height or perhaps staggered; or as night lights on the sides of a double bed, hanging on the bedside tables. The conditions of these items are good, they have undergone a conservative restoration that included a deep cleaning and the application of a water-based product that preserved the surface and the patina of time. The electrical system has been completely replaced. We replaced the plastic lamp holders with burnished brass lamp holders and replaced the electrical cable with a dark brown cotton textile cable.
