Wooden sculpture of the "Trinacria" or "Thrinacia".
The triskelion has served as the emblem of Sicily since antiquity.
from the ancient Greek "Trinakria" meaning "Three Points".
This ancient name for Sicily was given by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC due to the triangular shape of the island with its three capes.
It depicts a woman's head, Medusa, one of the three Gorgons, winged and wearing a knot of snakes and ears of wheat, from which radiate three bent legs, as if caught in mid-air.
"Trinacria" is the symbol of Sicily, so much so that it is depicted on the island's flag.
Italian.
