Mercury, known as Hermes in Greek mythology, is the messenger of the gods, son of Zeus and the nymph Maia. He is the god of commerce, travelers, thieves, and eloquence. He is often depicted wearing winged sandals, a caduceus (a staff entwined with two snakes), and a winged hat. He is renowned for his cunning, speed, and role as a psychopomp, guiding souls into the afterlife.
