An abstract exercise with only a wash brush, thinned acrylic, and a great piece of cotton paper turned out to be Lady Liberty with a bike riding overhead. It’s funny where the mind takes you when you let go.
I started with a sketch from a photo I took from a bike on the Leelenau Trail here by the house. My little guy and I were riding bikes beneath a canopy of trees with shadows making beautiful shapes along the way.
When I was nearly finished the abstract, I turned it upside down. Our older son said, “Mom, that’s obviously the Statue of Liberty.” And so it was.
This piece will need to be framed for hanging. I’m really happy with how this turned out!
