• Wrestling (lucha libre) is the oldest sport in the world and is integral to Mexican culture. The idea of "ex votos" is that wrestlers who won their match would hire an artist to paint a portrait to commemorate their win and to thank the Virgin Mary for their victory.
• Original artwork by Manuel Bauman who has been selling his art on the streets of Mexico City for over 30 years.
• The technique used is reverse painting. According to Merriam Webster, "Reverse painting involves applying paint to the underside of glass or acrylic, creating an image that is viewed from the opposite side. This technique requires the artist to work in reverse, starting with foreground details and ending with the background. The final image appears to float within the transparent material, offering a unique visual effect."
