African tribal mask made of wood, presumably Wengé wood, entirely hand-carved with numerous copper applications, entirely hand-modeled. The item was made by the Tikar tribe of Cameroon and is an extraordinary example of African ethnic tradition, a unique piece made entirely by hand by skilled artisans. Unfortunately, we have not been able to identify the subject depicted, as we are not particularly knowledgeable in the field of ethnic tribal art, but it is probably a shaman, a warrior, a ruler, or an African deity.

Our research shows that masks similar in style and subject matter, also made by the Tikar tribe of Cameroon, are priced from €150 to €500, with larger, more complex, antique, and valuable masks fetching over €2,000. Our mask is not particularly large, but it is truly beautiful and features artistic workmanship of great value. See less
