The Artist
Born in Naples, Ugo Matania came from a family of artists: he was the nephew of Eduardo Matania and cousin of Fortunino Matania, both established illustrators. He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples between 1905 and 1911, where he was a student of Vincenzo Volpe
Matania distinguished himself for his naturalistic and descriptive style, both in painting and illustration. His works, characterized by a strong pictorial structure and an expressive use of light, range from portraits to landscapes to scenes of contemporary life. This piece has an attribution mark,
