biographical notes on the artist

vincenzo canino, a self-taught neapolitan painter, was active as a fresco painter and restorer, decorating churches and palaces and restoring important works in the sorrento cathedral. A follower of the posillipo school, he favored painting from life, immortalizing authentic glimpses of life in campania. A reserved personality, he spent his life in his villa in capodimonte, which inspired many of his works. He died in naples in 1978. This piece has an attribution mark,
