L.E. Smith Mt. Pleasant Black Amethyst 2-piece serving set from the Depression Era (1925-1934). The set is comprised of a”ruffled” bowl with matching platter.
The set is made of black amethyst glass, which appears black in regular light but reveals a deep purple hue when held up to a light source. This unique color is due to the addition of manganese oxide during manufacturing.
