Female figure with angular features and an elongated neckline, holding a comb to her hair while seated against a blue background. Signed "Dunham" and dated '59. Jacques Ralph Dunham is a notable painter and designer recognized for his contributions to the mid century design movement. Born in Paris in 1922 to American parents, he spent most of his life in New York, with the exception of some interim years in Mexico during the 1950s. He died in New York 2002. His paintings consisted of striking elongated figures that were part of a modern movement in figural painting. Alongside his painting career, he was commissioned by Hilton Hotels to create interiors for many of their new hotel locations. He also designed furniture, with some pieces represented by the notable designer George Tanier.
