This Hermes scarf, with its red, brown, and white background, depicts African masks owned by tribal chiefs; they were an heirloom passed down from father to son for generations. These masks and sculptures were symbols of power or ritual objects. The four bands forming the edge of the scarf are "ntshak" (scarves) used by women to drape themselves.
