beautiful still life, watercolor on paper, depicting two corn cobs with leaves. Signed lower right "j. Cavailles" for jean jules louis cavailles (1901 - 1977). The signature registered on "art price" is very similar to ours, although obviously signatures are never perfectly identical, as they are not printed but handwritten, and therefore slightly different from one another. We also photographed the painting with a wood's lamp, and the signature clearly appears to have been made when the painting was created, and not added later, otherwise it would have been a different color. Beautiful gilded frame from the early 1900s, and the back of the painting also strongly supports its authenticity. In any case, as we have no expertise, our asking price is considerably lower than the actual value of the work.

Cavailles is an important french painter from the 1900s, with almost 2,000 auction results and the four highest ranging from over €31,000 to €37,280 for oil on canvas, while for watercolors, the four highest auction results range from over €8,000 to €10,524. Please note that 25%-30% auction fees must be added to the hammer price. The still life offered here is smaller than the watercolors that fetched such high prices, but it features the same color palette and brushwork. In our opinion, the value of the painting ranges from €1,500 to €2,000.
