This elegant and rare creative kokeshi originates from Aburatsubo, a small coastal town in Japan, and dates to the 1970s.
The design is particularly refined: the slender figure is painted with symbolic calligraphy in red and yellow, complemented by a distinctive white kimono closure. A striking feature is the use of partially scorched wood, creating a warm tone-on-tone effect that enhances the natural grain of the material.
The doll is unsigned, but the place of origin is clearly marked on the underside: 油壷 (Aburatsubo).
We have three pieces available; slight variations in patina and hand-painted details may occur, but all are in excellent vintage condition.
