Designed by British designer and art director Alan Fletcher in the late 1960s, the Clam Box is a graphic and playful storage box, produced by Mebel in Italy. Inspired by the shape of Edam cheese, it consists of two identical molded plastic shells, which are joined together by an ingenious system of serrated teeth.
Produced by Mebel in Italy, it comes in a bold color palette—red, blue, yellow, black, and white—characteristic of the pop aesthetic of the time. Ideal as a trinket tray, jewelry box, or small desk organizer, this piece illustrates how graphic design can infuse everyday objects.
Each box is signed: "Mebel, Italy, des. A. Fletcher."
