This hand-carved wooden sculpture is often referred to as a "Baby Buddha" or a "Lucky Thai Baby Buddha," and sometimes as an "Opium Pillow Baby" due to its potential use as a headrest in Chinese culture. It features a baby holding onto a melon. It is made of wood and a wax coating.
Material & Craftsmanship:
The sculpture is carved from a solid piece of wood, showcasing detailed features like the face and hair of the baby, and features a rich, natural patina.
While some sources suggest it depicts a baby Buddha, others link it to traditional Chinese opium pillows, which were used as headrests and held symbolic meaning.
This item is hand painted and hand-carved. The paint appears faint and faded over time; however is also more visible under lower light conditions. I have photographed it in high light to highlight imperfections in the wood for the Buyer.
Condition Note: Please see pictures for additional description. Last picture shows a substantial crack under the chin. There may be other imperfections. Thanks for looking.

Please examine closely the photographs for these. This item may benefit from a repair for the larger chin crack. However, it does not detract from its overall beauty. I would caution against using this in a playroom or floor however. Hand painted, faint/faded paint look. less
