The foundation for this piece is inspired by the sense of feeling captive yet empowered by the inner strength that keeps one grounded and fortified each day by determination and resilience. This contemporary, expressionist painting features warm pastel hues in its overtones punctuated by colorful muted accents peeking through, inviting the viewer to embrace its essence.

Hostage is currently a stretched canvas, and can be shipped stretched or rolled.

BIOGRAPHY

As a native New Yorker, Joe Ginsberg studied painting and sculpture from an early age. Inspired by the tides of nature, his paintings are frequently created outdoors, incorporating and reflecting the effects of prolonged exposure to the elements. His works often weather naturally, revealing the unexpected, organic disposition of environmental chemistry, reflecting earth’s natural patina and patterns of time. What he refers to as “Electric Nature.” Robert Mahoney, a veteran art critic observed “If his images seem to want to jump off the canvas, it is because they have been worked on by nature herself … the weathering works like a decorative enzyme that encourages tidal surges of mirages”
Joe Ginsberg studied textile design at Fashion Institute of Technology, graphic design at The School of Visual Arts, filmmaking at NYU and printmaking at Pratt Institute where he went on to teach this medium as well.
