Beni M'Guild rugs are hand-knotted by Berber women from the Aït M'Guild tribe, who inhabit the Middle Atlas Mountains in Morocco. These rugs are known for their thick, luxurious piles which are tightly knotted. The Beni M'Guild are a semi-nomadic group known as Imazighen, who originally belonged to the Aït Oumalou Sanhaja.

The art of weaving Beni M'Guild rugs has been passed down through generations, with mothers teaching their daughters the traditional techniques.

Historically, each family crafted their own rugs for household use, such as floor coverings or blankets. Over time, these rugs gained popularity beyond Morocco and became sought-after pieces in the world of interior design.
