Orfeo tamburi was a painter active between rome and paris. Having trained at the academy of fine arts in rome, he immediately began exhibiting in italy and abroad. After world war ii, he settled in paris, where he developed a refined style known for his urban views, architectural glimpses, and intimate atmospheres.
the work presented here consists of the final painting (measured 65x49 cm, framed 78.5x62.5x4 cm) and the preparatory study, executed in watercolor and tempera (measured 34x26.5 cm). These two works demonstrate tamburi's creative process, from the study, which is lighter and focused on basic structural and chromatic definition, to the final work, where the artist intervenes with greater impasto, a richer palette, and a textural rendering that gives the work its full expression. The chosen subject demonstrates tamburi's typical interest in urban views, focusing on buildings, rooftops, and alleyways. The city of this work is paris. These works speak of everyday life and lived urban views.
both works are signed lower right and are archived at galleria gioacchini under the respective archive numbers: 3111gg and 3112gg.
