This elegant Antique Persian Malayer runner, woven around 1920, is a superb example of the refined village craftsmanship for which the Malayer weaving district is celebrated. Its impressive length, graceful proportions, and finely detailed all-over design make it an ideal choice for a grand hallway or gallery space.
The runner features a warm golden camel field filled with an intricate lattice of delicate floral sprays, palmettes, rosettes, and gracefully curving boteh (paisley) motifs. Rather than relying on large medallions, the continuous all-over pattern creates remarkable visual movement while maintaining perfect balance from end to end.
Framing the field is a beautifully executed ivory floral border accompanied by multiple guard borders, all woven with exceptional precision. The rich palette combines soft camel, ivory, coral red, rose, sky blue, indigo, olive green, and chocolate brown, producing a harmonious composition with a gentle, naturally aged patina that only a century of careful aging can achieve.
Handwoven from hand-spun wool and colored with traditional vegetable dyes, the runner displays the supple handle, refined weave, and subtle abrash that distinguish authentic early twentieth-century Malayer carpets. The detailed drawing and crisp execution reflect the skill of highly accomplished village weavers.
Presented in very good condition, the runner retains an attractive pile with beautifully preserved colors and only light, even wear consistent with its age. Its elegant floral composition, versatile palette, and exceptional proportions make it equally suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
A timeless and highly decorative antique Malayer runner that combines refined artistry, outstanding craftsmanship, and lasting investment quality.
