Hand-knotted in wool and originating in 1880-90, this 5x6 antique Persian rug is a very special signed collectible of Kerman Lavar provenance and is an extremely rare piece in the history of handmade rugs—a work of master weaver Nozohour Salami, among the most exciting new classic curations from Rug & Kilim.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will appreciate this antique Kerman Lavar rug hails from a very special workshop from one of the most acclaimed cities of antique rug creation in several centuries, not to mention one of the few remaining works attributed to Salami known today. This piece revels in a distinct pair of sharply stylized boteh (paisley) and lotus palmette patterns in the field and border respectively. Widely believed to represent creation and rebirth respectively, the subtext of this historic piece is complemented by very grand gold, crimson red, cobalt blue, black, green, cream, and orange colourways, lending to both moods of grandeur and versatility in any space. Students of weaving history also know paisley rugs to be almost exhibitionist in their provenance—each one intended by its weaver to showcase their talent for meticulous detail and the fine execution of repetition, as seen in this elaborate, densely bejeweled masterwork, teeming with movement and finesse. Every detail, from its fine craftsmanship to its sheer range of colors and sense of movement, connotes a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
