Hand-knotted in wool circa 1920-1930, this 4x5 antique Persian rug is a remarkable signature piece from our Antique collection. It features rich tribal sensibilities with a geometric all over pattern; a lovely design like few even in our collection of Persian pieces.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft may appreciate this very special antique rug for being not only an exceptional find from one of the most special provenances, but a rarity to find an all over Persian rug of such versatile size, scale, and love in its every inch. Connoisseurs will note an interpretation of the classic paisley (or boteh), though it's like few we’ve seen in this more primitivist style. Keen eyes for detail may admire rich brown underscores of primarily geometric patterns in beige, red and blue tones in field and border alike. Admirers of the craft may appreciate a Gabbeh sensibility to the piece, though it also bears elements of Hamadan rugs and similar provenances of Persian weaving. This is a bold, graphic, personal antique piece; a piece of weaving history most likely from a special workshop with a deep reverence for the charm of geometric rugs—this being one of the most elegant and versatile we’ve seen.
Condition:
This antique Persian rug is in a good condition, and is ready for the floor.
